MY MBA LIFE

“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”
– Oscar Wilde
I find this quote fascinating because it basically encompasses what’s happening in my life right now.
I am passionate about aesthetics and creativity. All my life I’ve been inspired by art and beauty, which could come from a painting, a person, a place, or a garment. This drive led me to major in Marketing and pursue a series of jobs in both the creative and strategic side of marketing, the business arena dedicated to ideas, labels and value.
Even though I felt happy, I wanted more for my career. So, about two years ago I decided to further my education and pursue an MBA degree. The journey of applications and interviews is a whole different story that I’ll share with you another time. Right now I want to focus on the program itself, and how it completely turned my life upside down … (more below)
Ten months ago I started an MBA program at one of the top business schools in the U.S., Texas A&M University. So, basic stuff, it’s an extremely demanding 16-month program, plus an internship during the summer that will enable me to close the gap between my work experience and where I want to be in the future.
Even though I did a loooot of research, nothing could have prepared me for the brutality of the MBA life. We MBA’s work about 16 hours a day (yes, there’s no typo, sixteen hours a day! I couldn’t believe it either but it’s true), we easily pull about 100 hours a week, among group work, projects, internship search, tests and presentations. Totally feasible when you have no weekends at all, and your social life is dramatically limited.
It’s funny because I kinda already knew that it was going to be tough, but this is just a whole new level. However, as miserable as it sounds, I’m actually extremely happy. Yes, I had to move away from home, from my fiancé, my family, my friends, heck even my native language! But I’m learning so much. I find myself having discussions about Finance and Macroeconomics, and I feel proud and empowered. #GirlBoss … (more below)
I’m so hungry for more. I’m passionate about my future, where I want to go, who I want to be. #Boss. I want to lead people, and create amazing things along the way.
This is why Oscar Wilde’s quote “You can never be overdressed or overeducated” means so much to me. You guys know I love fashion and styling, and since the program started I have had to put the blog in the back burner a little bit, which honestly upsets me greatly. But, I’ll just keep trying, fiercely and relentlessly, because I definitely need both things in my life.
So, my life as an MBA is exciting and sometimes scary, but it will definitely be worth it.
